One of the most versatile singers of his generation, Tuncay Kurtoglu is a prize winner of many national and international competitions such as the Belvedere Competition (Finalist – Belvedere/2002), Tchaikovsky Competition (Best Tchaikovsky Interpretation - Moscow/2002), Verviers Competition (2nd Prize - Belgium/2003), 20th Valsesia Competition (2nd Prize – Italy/2004), Vinas Competition (3rd Prize - Barcelona/2004), and Alcamo Contest (1st Prize - Italy/2007). Further, he also holds prestigious awards including the "Artist of the Year Award" (both in 2010 and 2011 in Turkey), and the "Best Male Opera Singer Award" in 2016, Turkey.
Mr. Kurtoglu's operatic repertoire includes roles such as ''Timur” (Turandot), “Sparafucile” (Rigoletto), “Filip" and "Provincial Grand L'inquisitor” (Don Carlo), “Sarastro” (Die Zauberflöte), “Green 's” (Eugene Onegin), “Attila” (Attila), “Figaro" and "Dr.Bartolo” (Le Nozze di Figaro), “Commendatore” (Don Giovanni), and “Zaccaria” (Nabucco), to name a few. Some of the biggest triumphs of his career were his appearances as “Ramfis" and "The King” (Aida), “Osmin” (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), and “Landgraf”(Tannhauser) at the International Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, International Istanbul Opera Festival.
He has been singing one of his parade roles, 'Osmin' (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), for 15 seasons - not only in Turkey but also in South Corea, China, Italy, Ekaterinburg and Estonia.
Mr. Kurtoglu regularly appears at major venues such as the 50th Dubrownik Festival (1999), the State Opera Gala Concert in Zagreb (Croatia), Opera Basel, State Opera Hamburg, the Kremlin Palace in Moscow (2007), Alte Oper (Frankfurt) in 2008, Lincoln Center (New York), and covered the role of ‘’Wurm’’ (Luisa Miller) at Teatro La Fenice (2006).
Further, he was the first Turkish soloist to sing “Yunus Güner” in Ludger Vollmer’s “Gegen die Wand” at the Giessen State Theater (Germany/2016).
Recent highlights of his career include "Mephistofeles" in Gounod's Faust at the Istanbul State Opera, "Gremin" in Tchaikovsky's Yevgeni Onegin , "Banco" in Verdi's Macbeth at Mersin State Opera,”Don Basilio” in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Samsun State Opera, “King Renee” in Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” and “Ramfis” in Verdi’s Aida at Antalya State Opera (Turkey).
In Germany, he was recently heard as Nachtwächter in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" at State Theater Wiesbaden, Ridwan in "Alp Aslan" in Giessen, Samuele in "Un ballo in maschera" at the Wiesbaden International May Festival, and as Il Commendatore in "Don Giovanni" at Immling Festival.
