German baritone Carl Rumstadt (born 1992 in Stuttgart) is the son of musicians and has been in touch with classical music since his early childhood. After learning to play the cello for several years, he took up singing lessons at the age of 15. At 16 years old, he started studying voice as a "Jungstudent" at HfM Nürnberg with Prof. Siegfried Jerusalem. After graduating from school he studied as a diploma student at HMT München/Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding with Prof. Fenna Kügel Seifried, graduating in summer 2016.
He has appeared as a guest soloist with many renowned orchestras and theatres, for example Oper Graz, Cairo City Opera, Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman), Staatstheater Kassel, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Philharmonie Bad Reichenhall, Kurt Weill Fest Dessau, Carl Orff Festspiele Andechs, Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, Kammeroper München, Münchner Symphoniker, Theater Regensburg and Cuvillier Theater München.
In concert he achieved remarkable success with the Soli in Orff's Carmina Burana, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Kindertotenlieder, Mozart's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Paulus and Elias and Händel's Messiah and Bach's Johannespassion.
As a Lied singer, his focus lies on the works of Gustav Mahler, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Edvard Grieg, Hugo Wolf and Robert Schumann. He and young star conductor Thomas Guggeis form an exciting young Lied-Duo.
He worked with conductors like Thomas Guggeis, Nabil Shehata, Mario Venzago, Kevin John Edusei and directors like Calixto Bieito, Nigel Lowery, Cornel Franz, Tilman Knabe, Matthew Wild, Jasmina Hadziahmetovic, Manuel Schmitt and Christiane Lutz.
In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he was part of the Ensemble of Konzert Theater Bern where among other roles he portrayed the titular characters in Don Giovanni and Le nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Wolfram in Tannhäuser and Peer Gynt in Grieg's incidental music.
Since 2018 he has been a member of the Ensemble at Thater Trier, Germany where he sang Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Marcello (La Boheme), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier) and other roles.
Upcoming roles for him are his debut as Rodrigo in Don Carlo at Sommeroper Selzach under the baton of Constantin Trinks, as well as Danilo, Count Almaviva and Faninal in Trier.
