Sam Taskinen, a Finnish bass-baritone with a strong, resonant voice, is a former ensemble member of Theater St Gallen Switzerland (with roles such as Achilla in Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Capitàn in Catán’s opera Florencia en el Amazonas), and since 2021/22, of State Theater Kassel (Kuno in Freischütz, Borella in La muette de Portici, and Angelotti in Tosca). Having been trained as a dancer, Sam’s stage presence is commanding and adapts well to different kinds of characters. Sam was a member of the opera studio of Komische Oper Berlin, and has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in Finland and Central Europe, as well as having recently made her Lincoln Center and Edinburgh Festival debuts.
In 2019, Sam won 3rd prize at the international Klaudia Taev Competition for Young Opera Singers in Pärnu, Estonia.
Recent roles at State Theater Kassel include Kaspar and Kuno in Der Freischütz, Fasolt in Rheingold, Fra Melitone in La Forza del Destino, Crespel in Tales of Hoffman, and Papageno in The Magic Flute, just to name a few.
Highlights of the 2023/24 season include a.o. Marius Wegener in Lili Elbe at Theater St.Gallen and Fasolt in Das Rheingold at Theater Erfurt.
