American tenor Timothy Oliver began his career by earning a "fest contract" with the world famous Semperoper in Dresden, Germany. In his time there, he performed in over 50 operas with over 60 roles in his repertoire. Such roles included the Steuermann in Wagner's Der Fliegende Holländer, Brighellaand the Tanzmeister from Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, Arbace from Mozart's Idomeneo, Pedrillo from Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail, Jaquino from Beethoven’s Fidelio, Triquet from Tchaikovsky’sEugen Onegin and Camille de Rosillon from Léhar's Die Lustige Witwe. Guest engagements have led him to such important houses as the Oper Frankfurt, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Santa Fe Opera, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Bayreuther Festspiele.
In the actual 2019-2020 season, Mr. Oliver will return as a guest to the Semperoper Dresden for performances as Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte and as Spoletta in Tosca. He will be making his debut at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen as Vítek in Vêc Makropulos. He will return to the Komische Oper Berlin for a new production of Schwanda der Dudelsackpfeifer as the TeufelsFamulus. And he is looking forward to returning to the Staatstheater Oldenburg in the Spring to begin the first of three Wagner Ring Cycles.
Most recently Mr. Oliver interpreted the leading role of Gandhi in Philip Glass’ Satyagraha at the Staatstheater Oldenburg where he was subsequently invited to make his leading Wagner role debuts as Loge in Rheingold and Mime in Siegfried. Upon the request of Fabio Luisi, Mr. Oliver made his debut last winter at the Maggio Musicale in Florence, Italy as the Steuermann in Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer. After a successful jump-in as Havlitschek at the Komische Oper Berlin in the opera Die Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald, Mr. Oliver has been invited back for numerousproductions including Peter Pan, Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Satyagraha, and Candide. He has also participated on two tours of the world famous Komische OperBerlin Die Zauberflöte production in both Japan and at the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Mr. Oliver is equally at home on the concert and recital stage. He made his debut in 2008 at the AlteOper in Frankfurt, Germany under the baton of Maestro Sebastian Weigle singing the famous Dying Swan in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Mr. Oliver maintains a very close relationship with Maestro Fabio Luisi who has engaged him to sing with orchestras all over the world including the London Symphony, Vienna Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, and L’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In addition, Mr. Oliver is a sought after interpreter of numerous Bach works, in particular the Weihnachtsoratorium, Johannes Passion and Matthäus Passion in both the roles of the Evangelist and Tenor Soloist.
Hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, Mr. Oliver earned his Bachelor and Master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 2001 and 2003 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors. It was also during his university years that the Ohio Light Opera engaged him for multiple summers where he performed Operettas and Musicals in no less than 15 roles and for over 200 performances. In addition, he took part in numerous summer opera festivals including the St. Louis Opera Apprentice Program and Central City Opera where he had the honor of singing the lead roles of Larry/Matt in the famous “Face on the Ballroom Floor” and receiving the John Moriarty Award.
